Delhi Belly - the movie not the affliction
Delhi Belly released to rave reviews all round and piqued (the promos did their bit not to mention the song, DK Bose) as we were, off we trooped to watch it.
90 minutes later we were out.
The best way to judge a movie would be, IMO, the number scenes/lines quoted from the same once you are out. On this criteria, the movie rocked. It was laugh riot. From the time it started with the "ass crack" frame to the point it ended with Aamir Khan's faux hairy chest, there were abuses, laughs and comic timing in plenty. I guess this would be the first adult comedy in India on the lines of the immortal American Pie (the first one, since the later ones tend to degenerate into soft porn almost) and Austin Powers (Mike Myers with that unforgettable "Do I make you horny" line?).
Brilliantly irreverent, the only well known lead actor doesn't steal the show but some of the others do, notably Poorna Jaganathan (I have always been a sucker for short haired women). Smoldering on the screen and the rib tickling in the hilarious fake sex scene, she, along with the actor who plays the one with the delhi belly leave you laughing throughout with Vijay Raaz and Vir Das playing their comic parts to perfection. The sexual innuendos are aplenty and as expected from an adult comedy, you wouldn't want the kids catching some of the phrases. Although, I would think, they know far worse.
As is by now customary, as soon as the movie released, there were controversies galore. A bunch of people named DK Bose insisted their fair name was being maligned, some others thought Indian culture was being maligned while yet others thought their children would grow up scarred because of the movie. I do not know what is with this "suing" business nowadays. Every Thomas, Devender and Hari wants to protect something by banning something else. Well, DK Boses of the world, blame your parents for no forethought and the others, get a life, the kids know more than just the woman on top position!
If you have the stomach for a laugh, please watch!

Yes, a laugh riot it is.
ReplyDeleteI'll second you on the chick, Poorna; but so is Treasurywala, been a fan since the MTV days, sweet she is. On the controversy of the track title copyright claims, saw the press meet, i think for a change, Mr.Aamir Khan handled it gracefully this time, unlike the previous CB affair. Other issues were meant to be pooh poohed.
