NAMESAKE, SOMEPLACE ELSE AND NOSTALGIA
Saw the Namesake! Nice movie! Transports me back in time and makes me look at the future at the same time. It is more about loving your family than a certain Bollywood movie with the same tag line and a story about nonsensical, escapist crap with a sprinkling of the letter K. No person who has left his (or her) house and gone away be it beyond the borders of the country or just beyond the borders of the state can stand up and say he/she cannot be affected by it. Like the movie says – the greatest journeys are the ones where you are coming home. Faraway parents and siblings, innumerable phone calls, some missed, some neglected, some answered, thoughts of well being, almost forgotten anniversaries/birthdays characterize any of these far away relationships. The little things which mean a lot which keeps the LONLINESS away. Makes the survival system that people build anew in their new lives all the more important but then again not at the cost of existing relationships is it? But then like someone once said - without bye byes there would not be the joys of meeting would there.
Went to Someplace Else the other night. At first glance nothing had changed. The same atmosphere, the great music and Crosswinds about to play. A sudden overwhelming sense of nostalgia, the music, smoke and beer giving rise to the feeling of old friends and just being! At second glance there are smaller changes apparent. Times have changed, times are strange, here I come but I ain't the same … sang Ozzy aptly. Crosswinds got on stage. A group of teenagers started shouting for Bryan Adams. A sense of trepidation, a feeling of dread. CW played BA. Something was different I thought. Then the group started doing a strange mix of head banging meets bhangra meets Bollywood dance routine. SOMETHING DEFINITELY WAS DIFFERENT! But thankfully the moment (a few moments too many actually) passed. The group was immersed in its own strange dance form oblivious to the songs. CW moved to U2, with or without you they crooned and the good times were back. This one is for all of you I missed. It's definitely not the same but life moves on and that's when we cherish the old times and look forward to the future meetings. Cheers people and here is to the next time.
